LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas men’s golf extended its program record to 10 consecutive NCAA Regional appearances after being selected to compete in the Athens Regional during the selection show Wednesday on The Golf Channel. This is the 26th NCAA Regional appearance in program history.
Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel is in his 13th season with the Jayhawks and he has guided the program to the postseason in every season a championship has been held since 2016. KU enters the NCAA Athens Regional as the No. 7 seed and will play at the University of Georgia Golf Course from May 18-20.
The NCAA Athens Regional will consist of No. 1 Auburn, the top-seeded team in the field, No. 2 Illinois, No. 3 Vanderbilt, No. 4 BYU, No. 5 Georgia, No. 6 Louisville, No. 7 Kansas, No. 8 Northwestern, No. 9 Charleston, No. 10 Rice, No. 11 Southern Miss, No. 12 Harvard, No. 13 Howard.
The top five teams from the regional will advance to the NCAA Championship, which will be held at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa’s Championship Course in Carlsbad, California, beginning May 29.
Last season, Kansas placed 10th at the NCAA Bremerton Regionals with a score of 885 (+21). The last time the Jayhawks advanced to the NCAA Championship was in 2022, finishing 17th with a score of 880 (+40).
Kansas recorded nine top five and five top three finishes this year as a team. The Jayhawks recorded their only team win of the season at the Hoosier Collegiate with a score of 872 (+20). Most recently, KU placed fifth at the Big 12 Championship after firing the second-lowest round in tournament history with a 12-under par 268 in the third round.
The Jayhawks are led by senior Will King and junior Will Baker. King has competed in 11 events this season and leads the team with five top 10 finishes and seven top 20 finishes. Baker leads the team with three top five finishes, and 11 rounds in the 60s.
Senior Luke Honner and freshman Arthur Carlier have been key pieces to the Jayhawks success this season. Both golfers have competed in all 12 events this year, Honner has recorded four top 20 finishes while Carlier has finished inside the top 10 four times.
