ATHENS, Ga. – The Kansas Jayhawks finished tied for 11th place at the NCAA Athens Regional, which concluded on Wednesday at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
Junior Will Baker had a strong finish to the tournament and finished with scores of 77-68-69 (+1). Baker recorded his last two rounds under par and tallied 12 birdies to go along with two rounds in the 60s. Baker finished the tournament tied for 42nd place individually.
Senior Luke Honner put together a strong finish to his Jayhawk career and recorded back-to-back rounds in the 60’s to finish the tournament. Honner finished with scores of 77-69-69 (+2) and tied for 47th place individually.
Sophomore Hartej Grewal put together his best round of the tournament in round three on Wednesday, tallying three birdies and finishing at 1-under. Grewal carded scores of 74-72-70 (+3) and tied for 49th place individually.
Senior Will King competed in the first round of the tournament and finished with a 70 (-1) before being scratched from the lineup the final two rounds due to injury. King was replaced in the lineup by junior Max Jelinek, who shot round of 71-74 (+3) to close out the tournament.
“Overall, I’d say we had a fairly solid season and I’m proud of all the guys,” Bermel added. “I’d like to give a huge shoutout to our seniors, who not only were great players but great representatives of our program and KU.”
Vanderbilt won the event at 824 (-28) and qualified for the NCAA Championship, the rest of the qualifiers include Louisville at 26-under, Auburn at 22-under, BYU at 20-under, and Georgia at 19-under to round out the top five and NCAA Championship qualifiers.
