LAWRENCE, Kan. — No. 21 Kansas (6-2) will host No. 5 UConn (6-1) on Tuesday, Dec. 2. Tip from Allen Fieldhouse is set for 8 p.m. (Central) and the game will be televised on ESPN2. Listen to the game on Sports Radio 810 WHB.

 

 

 

Tuesday’s contest will recognize Hoops4ALS. Hoops4ALS is dedicated to uniting basketball coaches, players, and fans to raise awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) – also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

 

Kansas is coming off an 81-76 win against No. 17 Tennessee in the third-place game at the Players Era on Nov. 26 in Las Vegas. KU went 3-0 in the event. UConn defeated No. 13 Illinois, 74-61, on Nov. 28 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Kansas leads the all-time series with UConn, 4-0. In the last meeting, then-No. 5 Kansas defeated then-No. 4 UConn, 69-65, on Dec. 1, 2023, in Allen Fieldhouse.

 

 

Under Bill Self, since the 2003-04 season, Kansas is 12-1 against Associated Press top-five teams in Allen Fieldhouse.

 

 

Kansas has won 23-straight non-conference games at Allen Fieldhouse beginning on Nov. 7, 2022. Kansas is 162-6 (96.4%) against non-conference foes inside Allen Fieldhouse under Bill Self.

 

 

Through eight games, Kansas is averaging 76.3 points per game and has a plus-11.8 scoring margin. The Jayhawks pull down 39.8 rebounds per contest with a plus-7.0 rebound margin. KU averages 15.1 assists, 4.8 steals, and 6.5 blocked shots per contest. KU leads the Big 12 blocked shots (6.5), which is seventh nationally, and in 3FG Percentage Defense (24.5%), which is seventh nationally, and is second in FG Percentage Defense (37.4%), which is 21st nationally.

 

 

Sophomore center Flory Bidunga scores 15.8 points per game and leads KU with 8.4 rebounds per outing. He leads the Big 12 with a 62.8 field goal percentage, which is 29th nationally, and in blocked shots per game at 2.6, which is 11th nationally.  Bidunga has a team best two double-doubles this season.

 

 

Senior guard Tre White is scoring 14.4 points per contest and his 6.4 rebounds per game are tied for second on the team. White has 42 rebounds in his last five games.

 

 

Senior Melvin Council Jr. (10.8 ppg) leads KU with 42 assists. His 4.2 assist-to-turnover ratio is third in the Big 12 and 25th nationally.

 

 

Redshirt-freshman forward Bryson Tiller (9.5 ppg) has scored 34 points in his last three game. He pulls down 6.4 rebounds per game and has 26 boards in his last three outings.

 

 

Redshirt-sophomore guard Jamari McDowell (3.4 ppg) has started the last two games, while redshirt-sophomore guard Elmarko Jackson (4.3 ppg, one start) is coming off a career-high 17 points against Tennessee (11/26). Freshman Kohl Rasario (6.4 ppg) has started four games this season.

 

Other KU regulars include senior guard Jayden Dawson (4.3 ppg, five threes), graduate guard Gee Ngala (4.0 ppg, 4-6 3FGs),  and freshman guard Samis Calderon (6.8 minutes per game). Freshman guard Darryn Peterson leads Kansas with a 21.5 ppg. He has missed the last six contests.
