RE: KU SB: Kansas Softball Enters Top 25, Prepares for Big 12 Series with Baylor

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas softball has worked its way into the national conversation, breaking into the Top 25 in both D1Softball and Softball America polls while receiving votes in the NFCA and USA Softball rankings.Riding the momentum of its first-ranked conference series win since 2024, the Jayhawks return to Big 12 action this weekend to host Baylor for a three-game series.

Due to the weather forecast, the schedule has been adjusted. Kansas and Baylor will now play a doubleheader tomorrow (April 10), with the first game slated for 2 p.m. CT and the second scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The weekend will conclude Saturday with a single game at 2 p.m.

“We’re proud of the way this team has grown and competed to this point in the season,” head coach Jennifer McFalls said. “Being recognized in the national polls is a reflection of the work they’ve put in every day. Baylor is a well-coached, disciplined team, and this weekend will require us to stay locked in and continue executing our offensive and defensive game plans at a high level.”

Kansas (27-11, 8-4 Big 12) is just one win shy of tying head coach Jennifer McFalls’ most wins in a single season with the program and has now secured four Big 12 series victories this year while maintaining an undefeated record in conference series play. The Jayhawks also recorded two wins over ranked opponents last weekend, defeating No. 20/23 Arizona State in an 11-7 Game 1 victory and a narrow 5-4 Game 2 win, highlighted by Ella Boyer’s record-breaking 17th home run of the season and a clutch three-run blast from Campbell Bagshaw.

Kansas’ offense has been a driving force behind its success, led by Boyer, Bagshaw, and Anna Soles. Boyer’s power and Bagshaw’s timely hitting have energized the lineup, while Soles consistently delivers key RBI opportunities. The Jayhawks average 7.68 runs per game (No. 3 in the Big 12, No. 16 nationally), lead the conference with 78 doubles (No. 4 nationally), and boast a team slugging percentage of .651 (No. 2 in the Big 12, No. 7 nationally) and on-base percentage of .441 (No. 3 in the Big 12, No. 17 nationally), combining power, speed, and timely hitting to pressure opponents throughout games.

“We’re excited to carry the momentum from last weekend into the Baylor series,” head coach Jennifer McFalls said. “Our hitters are confident, and the team has shown they can compete in big moments. We know Baylor is a strong opponent, but I’m proud of our squad and how we’ve built our offensive identity. It’s going to be a great test, and we’re ready to bring our best.”
